This is where the journey began to an extent! It was here that the ideas of Marriage Masala came to their fruition. The ministry has been able to put in place some fantastic Kingdom workers who continue the work started by Rod and Ruthie. Meet them now....!
Our association with Rod and Ruthie and now with Marriage Masala, goes back to the late 90’s; when we attended our first marriage seminar. Our marriage was so impacted and changed, that even our neighbours noticed! At that time we were living in Navy quarters and our friends around knew us well. Training Seminars followed at Cornerstone House Family Life Centre which we avidly attended and God planted a seed in our hearts to reach out to families. We wanted to see them blessed as we had been.
It has been our joy and privilege to continue the work Rod and Ruthie started here within Scripture Union India. We have now been here at Cornerstone House and heading up the Family Ministry since Jan 2003 and can confidently say that God is doing amazing things!
We were married in 1993 and four years later we visited Cornerstone for the first time. A highlight for us was March 1998 when God spoke to us through Rod that we were a ‘couple set apart’ for families.
Urged by huge needs in the city of Chennai we have established SOURCE –
A Centre for Family Care & Training registered as a Public Charitable Trust. As qualified and trained Marriage Counsellors (Level 2, Association of Christian Counsellors, South Asia) we work with individuals and families at our base and travel widely carrying the message of hope and healing for families .
We had been married four years when we first visited Cornerstone and were launched into Family Ministry. We were business people at that time running an open home for students (UESI) and passionate to share the love of Jesus where we lived in Pondichery. We were immensely blessed by the ‘spices-skills’ we learnt, and our marriage really became "Spicy Magic Masala." Ruthie identified our gifts ,and together with Rod trained and mentored us for Family Ministry.
Obeying God's call, we quit our business on 31st March, 2003 to study Theology at Bangalore and a course in Clinical Pastoral Care and Counselling.
With our two teenage children we now have an ‘open home’ "PETRA,"
We provide marriage counselling in a friendly ambiance with guest rooms and a library . We partner with Joel and Carol of "SOURCE", and Jacob and Rani of SU Family ministries teaching ,training and encouraging couples from all backgrounds and cultures. We want to see this ministry multiply.
It all goes back to 1998 when we were first attending a weekend seminar run by Rod and Ruthie at Cornerstone House in Mahabalipuram South India. We were captured by the vision for families. God has opened so many doors for us, taking seminars, counseling couples and also helping to lay foundations for Christian marriages for young un-married friends. We kept praying for 9 years that God would show us the right time and way to step into our vision and the burden of our heart.
In 2007, Nov 1st, God very wonderfully, very clearly, through His word guided us to start our own family ministry by the name:
'REPAIRER OF BROKEN WALLS FAMILY MINISTRIES(RBW FAMILY MINISTRIES)
We stepped out in faith and depended on God for everything. God is miraculously opening doors and using us mightily for His work. We are able to reach the elite as well as the illiterates with the same teaching using different methods. So far we have done more than 200 seminars in different parts of India. We give all the glory to God. We also thank Rod and Ruthie for equipping us not just with the theory, but with real practical tips for marriage enrichment.
A passion being fulfilled! This is our story….
I work with an IT Education firm, Moly is a home maker and we have 2 daughters Rachel and Sharon
We moved from Vizag to Chennai in 2000. We had been praying to the Lord to give us a ministry. We did not have a clue of what it would be until May 2002, Rod and Ruthie conducted ‘Marriage Builders’ in Cornerstone House, SU Camp Centre Mahaphalipuram.
Initially we came there because all our friends from Vizag were coming and we thought it will be fantastic to spend time with them and have fun. But the Lord had His own ideas!
We were going though big difficulties in our married life and the Lord dealt with us and released us of those issues and as we started praying He told us that there would be many who were going through the same problems. We both came from Pentecostal families and yet in spite of growing up in strong godly homes, we had difficulty in marriage. We kept praying and the Lord put a great burden in our heart to work amongst married couples.
We initiated a few marriage seminars in our church New Life Assemblies of God every year and Moly and I trained in Christian Counselling through ‘Person to person’.
More and more needy people came to our home and we saw couples being remade. Pastor. Stanley and Esmi Metha from Bombay Baptist church encouraged us along with our Pastor. Chadwick to adapt the Alpha marriage course and run ‘Celebrating Marriage ‘programmes such as
Marriage Masala weekends and Heart to Heart evenings.
Rod and Ruthie, Joel and Carol (our local mentors), Rani and Jacob from Cornerstone House, and many others, have always stood by and encouraged us to do this ministry with great passion .We have many plans for the future and excitement at what God is going to be doing in so many families lives.
Marriage Masala has been around for a while with Rod and Ruthie's initiative finding its roots in India and learning a valuable amount about marriages through their work in India. It has come to a stage now that they are not the only ones involved in the happenings of Marriage Masala. People from all over the world are involved in this exciting adventure taking different flavours and under different names are bringing hope to many marriages!
